Manage Users
This guide has information about how to create and manage Sumo Logic Users. In Sumo Logic, an administrator controls access to capabilities and data by assigning capabilities and search filters to roles, and then assigning user to roles. For more information see Role-Based Access Control.
note
To manage users and roles, you must have the administrator role or your role must have been assigned the manage users and roles capability.
In the Sumo Logic web app, you'll find pages for managing users at Administration > Users and Roles > Users.
In this section, we will introduce the following concepts:
📄️ Create and Edit Users
This page has instructions for creating and editing users in Sumo Logic. For information about deleting a user, see Delete a User.
📄️ Change a User's Email Address
As a Sumo Logic Administrator, you can change a user’s email address.
📄️ Reset a User's Password
This topic describes how to reset another user's password. When you reset a user's password, Sumo Logic will send the user an email with a temporary password, which the user will be required to reset upon signing in.
📄️ Unlock a User's Account
If a user tries to log into their account several times and fails, his or her account will be locked out for security reasons. The default configured lockout period is 30 minutes, which occurs after six failed login attempts within a 10-minute period. After the designated lockout period expires, the user's account is automatically unlocked. These default settings may be configured by an administrator using the Password Policy Settings.
📄️ Deactivate or Activate a User
To temporarily prevent a user from logging into the Sumo Logic service, you can change the user's status to Inactive. You can reactivate an inactive user at any time without the need to re-enter user details.
📄️ Delete a User
Deleting a user permanently removes the user. When you delete a user, you can select a Sumo Logic user account to which to transfer the deleted user’s content, including folders, searches, scheduled searches, scheduled views, monitors, and dashboards. If you don't want to transfer the content to another user, you can choose to delete it along with the user account.
📄️ Offboard a User
When it's time to remove a user from your organization's Sumo Logic account, there are a few important steps to take before actually disabling or deleting that user. To save the settings for a user and temporarily prevent access, you can deactivate a user rather than deleting them. Disabled users can't log in to their Sumo Logic account, giving you time to replicate content.
📄️ Multi-Account Access
Sumo Logic now supports custom subdomains and recommends that as the best approach to providing access to multiple accounts: you can configure a custom subdomain for each of your Sumo Logic accounts. For more information, see Set up a custom subdomain.
📄️ Verification for Secure Third-Party Service Access
Within Sumo Logic, several links in the Help menu connect to third-party services, such as Documentation, Support, Feature Request, and Community.
